Team Finland made one of the most impressive achievements in Bangkok at the World Muaythai Championships 2019. 2 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze put Finland alongside the world powerhouses like Ukraine and Australia.

Tessa Kakkonen has truly smashed it at the World Championships in Bangkok having four fights during the six competition days.

One of the Finnish stars Tessa Kakkonen had to face opponents from Asia and Europe on the way to her gold medal. Her final would add geography to her victories but sad injury did not let Sze Sze Rowlins (AUS) step in the ring.

Tessa was coming back to the big muaythai stage to remind the world of the power Finland prides itself in the world muaythai arena.

Anna Rantanen had an extra difficult task to compete against the Swedish superstar Angela Mamic who came to claim her gold after becoming second in Mexico a year before. The final matched Angela with the geographical neighbour from Finland who upset the Swedish crowd again. Anna Rantanen used Angela’s hard draw and found holes in defence of the Swede. The second gold for the Finnish team made it the top country of the event.

Satu Mykkanen could make a true sensation for team Finland becoming a winner of the 45 kg division, but the news from Belarus with Alena Liashkevich making the team made the chances much lower. The draw was very lucky for spectators keeping this fight for the final where Satu was taking on the Belarus athlete who never lost a fight since 2012 which interestingly was to an athlete from Finland.

Bright fight from both athletes and still Alena defended her gold medal from Minsk with Satu brigning silver to her team reasult.

Team Finland ended 6th in the overall ranking sharing the place with Ukraine, Australia and Turkey.

It was a great performance by the Finnish team and motivation for the new generation to follow the steps of their champions.
